Texas Bed and Breakfast Inns and Lodges

Looking for nostalgia, a little romance, some peace and quiet and the best deal around? Maybe all of the above?

You got it...You can have it all at "Smiths' Tin House Bed & Breakfast" in Johnson City, Texas. Just pick up your phone and call (830) 868-4548, ask for Dianne and she will fix you up. In this wonderfully antiques appointed private guest house you get "not just one room, not just one room with a private bath, not just a suite of rooms...you will get the whole house and all the rooms within!"

"The Tin House" is located close to the square in Johnson City, from there is a short walk to convenient shopping and dining. "Antiques on every corner, we got 'em." Parking is no problem in Johnson City, in fact once you pull up to the "Tin House", you can park your vehicle and forget it. The LBJ Visitors Center along with the Boyhood Home and Johnson Settlement are but three blocks away, and drop in to visit the widely acclaimed refurbished Feed Mill Complex, where you can shop, ogle, eat drink and be merry.

Once inside, you may think as others have that "someone lives here"! Not true, you have the whole house to yourself, although from first glance it appears the lady of the house has just laid her copy of "Country Living" Magazine on the wicker sofa in the front room. Wicker rockers and chairs filled with plump pillows are ready for weary guests to occupy.

In the "front room", to one side is a complete living area, furnished with a comfortable antique wicker living room suite, including a writing desk, bookcase filled with everything from Texas Folklore to Fly Fishing, even children's books! For those of you who love to get away from it all, but haven't quite shutout the real world, there is a color television with cable, and a guest telephone.. On the other side of the room is a king sized bed, complete with a "picket fence" headboard, sprouting a faux grapevine. The bed is piled high with pillows to make your sleeping or lounging a comfortable experience.

The second room in the guest house is a large bedroom with two matching antique iron beds. There is a skirted dressing table for our lady guests. This room shows off the red painted iron beds being dressed in fluffy Liz Claiborne comforters and pillows. Each bed has a bedside table and chair and of course a reading light.

In the kitchen you'll find everything you need, a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and of course a kitchen sink! The table will be cheerfully set with an assortment of old china and linens. The upscale continental breakfast (homemade by myself) will be there the day you arrive to be warmed up and enjoyed at your leisure the next morning. Breakfast consists of a variety of items, different each day...breakfast quiche, biscuits and gravy, Tex-Mex Breakfast Tacos, breakfast breads or casseroles and fruit in season. There is always cereal to choose from and a variety of teas and coffees. There will even be homemade cookies in the cookie jar.

A special occasion, birthday, anniversary, honeymoon or just a surprise getaway? Just let me know and I can get it done for you with advance notice- bottle of wine chilling, ice cream and cake, some before dinner snacks, all of this at a prearranged price are available.

Did I forget to say that this 1918 dwelling has the usual "indoor" plumbing, featuring a large walk in shower and a huge stack of linen at your disposal. Out back there is a small private wood deck with benches and a small charcoal grill should you decide to cook out. Cooking other than warming in the microwave is not allowed in the guest house. Smoking is allowed only on the deck or the front porch. Sorry but Fido is persona non grata.

If nostalgia, peace and quiet, comfortable things around you and being treated like invited guests rather than clients appeals to you, you will love it at the "Tin House." Like shopping? Some things in the guest house are for sale and the honor system is the preferred mode of buying. You like it? You take the tag off, leave your personal check or cash in the cigar box and it's yours!

If you would like suggestions of other things to do in the area within say one hours drive of Johnson City, let me know and I will be glad to help you. Our own Market Days in Johnson City are held April-October on the 3rd weekend of each month. There are always treasures to find, fun to have, entertainment, and food in Memorial Park on that weekend. If you don't know about Wimberly Market Days...check it out but stay in Johnson City at the Tin House and avoid the crush of people. Wimberly is just 45 minutes away and Market Days are the first weekend of the month.

Come on out, kick back and put your feet up on the porch rail or swing away city cares on my porch swing. Watch the world move slowly by in Johnson City, Texas, where we make guests feel invited!
